We have recently joined forces with The Royal Hospital School, The Woolverstone Project and Alton Watersports Centre to work together to create a ‘multi-function’ boathouse and clubhouse for all users of Alton Water.

This is a unique opportunity for ‘Blue Sky’ thinking to build a venue which will benefit the local community for the next 100 years if not more.

We have envisaged a boathouse which will incorporate the following facilities for the use of members, visitors and the local community.  We aim for it to a place built by local people, for local people.  In the new facility we would like to see;

A Rowing Tank – An indoor rowing facility

A 10 Bay boathouse to store our expensive racing shells

An ‘Ergo’ room for our rowing machines to cater for up to 25 people at a time

A Weights Gym

A Fitness room for circuit training, pilates, yoga and other sporting programmes

Treatment Rooms for those requiring rehabilitation

Conference Rooms and offices

A ‘Wet Cafe’ for sailors and those in outdoor gear (anglers, windsurfers, sailors, walkers, bikers, ornithologists)

An education centre – For everyone to learn about the superb Suffolk Wildlife and in conjunction with Anglian Water, the importance of the provision of safe, clean, drinking water and its effect on the economy)

A Theatre/Lecture Theatre/Auditorium for concerts, conferences, presentations

A Restaurant and Banqueting Venue for Wedding Receptions, Annual dinners, conferences and general dining – Alton – The best view in Suffolk.

All these facilities to be open and available to members of the local community

The Cost

We expect the cost of such an iconic venue to be approximately £ 2M.  This may sound like a lot of money but we are engineering this project so that it has a long ‘shelf life’.  £ 2M over the next 100 years is only £ 20,000 per annum.  We have already started fundraising and we’d like you to join in too.  To donate, please pay your donation, no matter how large or small directly to;
