Learn2Row – Adult and Junior

We run a series of very comprehensive 5 day rowing camps (non-residential) for young people aged between 12 and 17, entitled Learn2Row. We also have a slightly less comprehensive but similarly good-value adult programme which is run over a series of weekends and evenings on a flexible attendance basis.

ROWING CAMP CONTENT – Junior L2R

Our Learn2Row (L2R) rowing camps take place at Alton Water in Suffolk, and are run by fully qualified coaches. The Rowing Camp structure includes the following:

– basic rowing skills

– rowing in crews and in single sculls

– safety – capsize drills and a swimming test

– the importance of nutrition, healthy eating and sleep (if taking the athlete workshop)

– strength and conditioning, and stretching (if taking the athlete workshop)

– games, fun activities and competitions

The only requirement we ask is that applicants for the Rowing Camp are able to swim a minimum of 50 metres. No prior rowing experience is necessary.

The camps run from 8.00 – 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday (except for two courses with a Bank Holiday in them which will run Tuesday to Friday). Sufficient time will be given for breaks and food and drink between and during the various sessions.

Junior Learn to Row Camp – Fees

The cost of the camp is £ 350 and includes membership of Alton Rowing Club to 31st December and membership of GBRA, our governing body, which provides a racing license, for one year.

In the year following completion of the camp, membership of Alton Rowing Club is a minimum of £ 1.00.

Please note that once the course has been completed, there are no additional fees for rowing during normal club training sessions.  Therefore, once the course is paid for and completed, you can row for free during the evenings and week-ends.

PRE-UNIVERSITY ROWING CAMPS – 2016

We are running two Pre-University Rowing Camps for those students going to University in Autumn 2016 or if taking a gap year, in Autumn 2017.  On completion of the course, students will be at a standard where they will be able take part in regattas during the summer.  This will allow them to join their University Boat Club not as a novice but as an experienced rower and give them a head start against their contemporaries.  With a bit of luck and effort, you may even be able to win your novice ‘Pot’ which will most likely lift you above all the novices starting at University and guarantee you a more productive and rewarding rowing career and social life.  It can also create a potential income stream by becoming a coach in due course after a certain period of training and experience.

20 Jun – 24 Jun – University Rowing Camp 1

27 Jun – 1 Jul – University Rowing Camp 2
